Founded by Kate Gale and Mark E. Cull in 1994, Red Hen Press publishes poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, with particular attention to accomplished work overlooked by larger publishers. Its nonprofit mission combines literary excellence, diverse voices, and community engagement through readings, literary awards, and Writing in the Schools workshops for Los Angeles–area students.
