Melville House interns assist in all matters of the business, gaining a sense of how publishing works at a small, independent publishing house.
Interns are also regularly invited to sit in on editorial, marketing, publicity, art, and production meetings. The program is an excellent introduction into the professional expectations and requirements of the publishing industry.

Responsibilities
- Reading manuscripts and assisting with screening submissions
- Filling out reader's reports
- Proofreading book cover mechanicals
- Slugging and cold reading manuscripts
- Creating Reading Group Guides
- Building pitch lists for digital marketing department
- Publicity campaign mailings and book promotion
- Podcast development for publicity purposes
- Database management and upkeep
- Photo research for art department
- General office tasks
Season Information
- Spring season runs from January to early May
- Summer season runs from late May to August
- Fall season runs from September to December
