Role overview

International Literary Properties (ILP) is looking to hire a Literary Rights Manager, reporting to the VP, Publishing. The position will support the operations of owned in-house agencies including Harold Ober Associates and Richard Curtis Associates. The Literary Rights Manager will oversee a diverse range of authors across genres with the support of members of the ILP team, working to maximize opportunities for the authors on the storied lists of ILP's owned backlist agencies.

The right candidate will have the ability to self-direct, take initiative, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment where employees often work remotely, but collaborate daily. Knowledge of contracts is essential in support of our best-selling and classic authors. Curiosity, adaptability, and organizational skills are necessary, along with an idea of the requirements of long-term client representation. Experience selling subsidiary, foreign, and AV rights is also necessary.

Location: HYBRID - Office: New York, NY (Greater NYC Area Preferred - Occasional on-site work required)

Start Date: ASAP

Responsibilities

  • Managing backlist and some frontlist sales
  • Managing relationships with clients and authors' estates
  • Administration of foreign and subsidiary rights for backlist titles
  • Initiating rights renewals or reversions for out-of-print titles and expired contracts
  • Seeking new opportunities for unexploited and reverted rights, both domestically and internationally
  • Collaborating with ILP team members and co-agents in support of our authors
  • Minimal travel required to attend industry events

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years working in an agency setting
  • Developed industry contacts
  • Deal and contract negotiation skills
  • Superior communication skills
  • Adept with Microsoft Office and rights management software generally, comfortable learning new systems as needed
  • Team player who is self-driven but loves to collaborate with colleagues toward a common goal

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual Salary: $63,000-$67,000, subject to experience
